This study, devoted to the prose poem “Par la croisée,” published in 1870 and later inserted in the collection Mémoires d’un veuf (1886), highlights the singularities found in Verlaine’s prose, linking, using the mode of dissonance, the comic to the expression of the intimate, which up to that point was the writer’s signature in his verse.
