What are the issues raised by images in the interpretation of Paul Verlaine’s erotic poetry? This study analyzes eight illustrations from the poem “Per amica silentia” (Les Amies), which question the illusion of intimacy and reinforce the voyeurism of the poet, the artist, and the reader.
