Chapter XIV “Ver” of La Bohême galante contains two songs that the author did not quote elsewhere. Although Paul Bénichou could not identify the source, they seem to come from a scene from Alexandre Dumas’s rural novel entitled Dieu et diable (or Conscience l’innocent) and serialized in Le Pays from February 26 to April 7, 1852. This story which tells about the childhood of the novelist in Villers-Cotterêts would not have failed to interest Nerval.
