The theme of illness in poetry is an ancient tradition that became a genre because of its recurrence in the literature of poets who are sometimes doctors themselves. Medical poetry practiced by patients is also a useful tool in narrative medicine, in terms of strengthening the relationship at the heart of the doctor-illness-patient triad.
