Images are often evoked through metaphor in order to immerse the reader in the poet’s emotions, perceptions, ideas, and feelings. The poems of Giovanni Dotoli lead readers into a world where images and metaphors reign, not as ornaments but as the very essence of his poetry. This article showcases the role of poetic images in six poems from his collection Étymologies.
