Reading the two cantos XVI and XVII of Hell becomes an opportunity to redefine the idea of the « central cantos » of the poem. The cantos XVII of the canticas are read in parallel between the « center » and the « circle » and suggest new perspectives. The hunting metaphor, which runs through Dante’s entire work, becomes a key to re-read Gerione’s episode, from the evocation through the rope to the construction of the character itself, between biblical suggestions and mythological echoes.
