This study looks at the conditions under which Rostand wrote and published the poems that were collected in Le Vol de la Marseillaise soon after his death. Starting with an analysis of the discursive situation that was furnished for him during the world war and based on readings of several plays, it shows how Rostand was able to appropriate war discourse and how he found the means to bring it before the public in such a way that he came to be seen as a real national poet.
