The poet and the philosopher Claudel and Voltaire or writing vituperatio

Claudel and Voltaire embody contradictory ways of thinking: the poet was known for his Christian faith (fides), while the latter established reason (ratio) as a model of intellectual emancipation. When evoking Voltaire, Claudel abandoned himself to the excesses of vituperatio and invective. In an extremely aggressive fashion, he developed numerous acerbic criticisms of the man, his œuvre, and his thinking, attempting to diminish his prestige to the point of appearing to be motivated by resentment.
