The notes on the proofs of the definitive edition of the Coup de dés by Mallarmé

The notes that Mallarmé added to the manuscript and successive proofs of Vollard’s edition of the Coup de dés have never previously been studied. Here we find that they form a Mallarméan system of notes that helps to create a correspondence between form and meaning or a form-meaning specific to the typographic poem. They provide such a detailed wealth of clues to accompany this “total expansion of the letter” that they constitute proof of it.
