In her article, Sophie Gondolle presents the life and work of Gabriel de La Landelle, a friend of Edouard Corbière who was, like him, one of the pioneers of the maritime novel. She explains how the poet of Les Amours Jaunes recreated in his verses the habits and expressions of the sailors that La Landelle describes in his works. By referring to Le Langage des marins, published by La Landelle in 1859, she sheds light on the technical meaning of certain terms used by Corbière in his collection.
