Cyrille Ferraton, “Vision and Analysis According to Robert Heilbroner”
According to Robert Heilbroner, there is no disinterested analysis. Every economist relies on a vision, a “pre-analytic cognitive act” (Joseph Schumpeter). Thus, the crisis of the conventional economy is a crisis of vision. Heilbroner defines this conception of hermeneutics. According to us, his work on worldly philosophers played a decisive role in the development of this hermeneutic conception.
Keywords: hermeneutic, analysis, history of political economy, values.

290Patrick Mardellat, “Marx, Phenomenology of Poverty and the Revelation of the Common”
This article is devoted to the young Marx’s dealing with the debate about dead-wood theft under the perspective of the significance of poverty. What does the way of living of the poor tell us about humanity according to the young Marx? And what is the nature of the goods the poor reclaim for their use by common right? We argue that with his kind of phenomenology of poverty Marx gives us tools to think of an economy of the inappropriability of what is common to humanity.
Keywords: poverty, use value, common, inappropriability, Marx.

Cécile Renouard, “From the Person Conceived as a Gift to the Justice of the Commons. Essay Starting from Martha Nussbaum”
We apply the notion of giving within the context of a reflection on the justice of the commons, in the following double sense: gift as that which is transmitted freely, in a manner that is not demanded, and gift as what obligates us and binds us together. This perspective appears central for a social and political organization that promotes the inclusion of the most fragile. Nussbaum’s thought allows us to deepen the tensions inherent in the Maussian perspective.
Keywords: giving, justice, capability, commons, Nussbaum.

Adrien Vila, “From Compensated Dollar to 100% Money. Irving Fisher’s Answer to the 1929 Crisis”
In this paper, we examine the factors internal to Fisher’s thinking that explain why, after the 1929 crash, he developed the 100% Money (1935) at the expense of the compensated dollar. Our interpretation challenges Friedman and Schwartz’s (1970) assumption that Fisher includes deposits in his definition of money and would then consider necessary a credit control policy. In our opinion, it is not the nature of bank credit that changes for Fisher, but its role in triggering and spreading crises.
Keywords: Irving Fisher, macroeconomics instability, credit, money creation.

Jean-Fabien Spitz, “Grotius Property Right and Necessity Right. The Philosophical Foundations of the Social State”
The paper shows that Grotius’ initial and major claim is that the primitive community is a positive one which gives any member of the human species an equal right to use natural resources in order to provide for his subsistence. The situation of pressing necessity – which cancels all private rights and causes a return to the initial 292positive community – illustrates this subordination of the subjective right of property to the general right of access to natural resources.
Keywords: Grotius, property, subjective right, positive community, right to life.

Joël Thomas Ravix, « Francis Bacon et William Petty. Une autre économie politique républicaine ? »
Joël Thomas Ravix, “Francis Bacon and William Petty. Another Republican Political Economy?”
The article shows that Francis Bacon and William Petty develop a republican political economy different from that of James Harrington. Its particularity is to rely on the notion of conflict borrowed from Machiavelli. However, the dynamics generated by this conflict do not concern the political domain of the domination of the nobles over the people, but the economic domain insofar as it is linked to the production and distribution of wealth.
Keywords: republicanism, conflict, Francis Bacon, James Harrington, Machiavelli, William Petty.

Catherine Larrère, “From Commercial Republics to Republican Political Economy. The Issue of Territory in the Eighteenth Century”
According to Montesquieu, the existence of commercial republics is an evidence of the possibility of a republican political economy. However, notwithstanding the problem of the incompability between commerce and republican virtue, commerce by itself cannot equate economy which is linked with territory. Hence the question: are agrarian republics possible?
Keywords: Montesquieu, commercial republics, political economy, territory, agrarian economy.

Christopher Hamel, « Diderot contre la physiocratie. Une critique républicaine ? »
Christopher Hamel, “Diderot face to Physiocracy. A Republican Criticism?”
In his Apologie de l’abbé Galiani, Diderot attacks the Physiocrat view of the absolute property rights and puts forward the principle of general utility that legitimates the limitation of property rights. This article reads Diderot’s critique within the framework of republican categories: being protected against the domination of another appears as the end of society and destitution as an extreme form of dependence on someone else against which the legitimate political authority has to struggle.
Keywords: Diderot, physiocracy, republicanism, destitution, property right.

Michel Bellet, Philippe Solal, “The Notion of Property in Sismondi’s Work. A First Positionning Based on the Nouveaux principes”
Sismondi’s study of property in the Nouveaux principes d’économie politique is not separable from his definition of wealth. It is by turning to the Rousseauist method of the second Discours that he characterizes wealth. Property is approached from the point of view of the constraints of reproduction conditioned by the respect of a fair relationship between production and consumption. It is ultimately less the property than the relationship to the property that is essential for Sismondi.
Keywords: consumption, production, property, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Sismondi, wealth.
