This correspondence may seem rather one-sided, since we have ten times more letters from Proust than from Régnier. The letters exchanged with Henri de Régnier’s wife, Gérard d’Houville, felicitously complete this collection. The exchanges are as friendly as they are literary, and they also reveal Proust’s battle to enter the Académie after winning the Goncourt Prize.
