Following the dictum: “Tell me what kind of entertainment you prefer and I’ll tell you who you are,” entertainment has been used to determine the social status of an individual or group since its integration into a civilian lifestyle. By taking into consideration two Proustian protagonists, Charles Swann and Odette de Crécy, the dialectical and symbiotic relationship between high culture and popular culture will be discussed to develop a philosophy of popular culture in the form of a seducing, absorbing web of a spider woman.
