The rhymes of Girart de Roussillon Methodological considerations

This article is a reflection on the study of rhymes and methods of interpreting them, and contributes to the debate on the geographical origins of the Girart de Roussillon. Examining some typical examples illustrates the need to critically analyze rhymes and verse juxtaposition. We localize the poem’s composition—or final version—in south-east Poitou; the presence of Franco-Provençal traits can be explained by the author’s movements.
