Rachilde’s works are based on the association of woman – and feminity ¬– with perversion. This association raises several issues related to the definition of gender, based on its link with the medical and ideological studies of the 19th century. The scandal surrounding the figure of the writer is analyzed in the light of the several female figures structuring Rachilde’s novels.
