The ambiguous construction and function of the rhymes in « Les Corbeaux » calls for further analysis. For, in our view, it seems questionable to consider all of the text’s sestets as consistently patterned in either a ab-ba cc, or abb-acc structure. The former of the two, however, could be seen as plausible, provided we hear in the first three verses something on the order of an imitatively metrical inscription of the sound of church bells peeling the angelus.
