A media cliché sees Arthur Rimbaud as a paradoxical “protopunk”. The analysis of songs in which the poet is mentioned reveals the origins and evolution of this symbolic filiation. A final synthesis, which opposes the main characteristics of the Rimbaldian oeuvre to those of the punk movement, allows us to assess its relevance and effect.
