The suspensive Diaboloques… Stylistics of the uses of aposiopesis in Aurevillian writing

This study considers the stylistics of the uses of aposiopesis in Les Diaboliques by Barbey d’Aurevilly. It seeks to identify this device in the enunciative play, but also in the constant back-and-forth between wordplay and play on punctuation, inviting the reader to participate in the semantic completeness of the language.
