The present study seeks to explore the diplomacy of culture that Giovan Battista Ramusio employed in his collection of European travel literature entitled Navigations and Travels. The Secretary of the Republic of Venice exhibited his Neoplatonic interpretation of European discoveries in commendations and dedications, evaluating the literary and visual means through which the gratitude ascribed to intellectual filiations contributed to create a new, global relation between mentors and mentees.
