Passionate about his time, curious about all new technology, Maxime Du Camp was a pioneer in many fields. He was the first in the world to photograph Egyptian monuments. From 1869, he left behind the traditional literary genres to focus on the study of the reality of his time. He showed in books that are often very original the exceptional qualities of observer and investigator that make him one of the best witnesses to his era.
