The un-seen and faciality of the Other Issues around the lack of being in La Vie tranquille

La Vie tranquille can be viewed as an unfinished version of Le Ravissement de Lol V. Stein (The Ravishing of Lol Stein), despite providing the framework for the latter work. The relationship triangles in La Vie tranquille are not resolved, and Françou is not yet the “absent” (en allé) being embodied by Lol. The inability of the female character to confront the faciality of the Other, or to become the third party in relation to others (Levinas), prevents Françou from attaining her absent presence and from living it fully.
