From unresolved trauma to rebuilding memory of the war’s forgotten people, in Ghita by Aïcha Yacoubi

Ghita is a monologue in which identity and space are marked by fragmentation, in the historical context of the Spanish Protectorate, a period that caused “trauma chaud” (unresolved trauma) among Moroccans. This trauma is still very vivid for the character of this piece, and feeds a historical memory that the play gradually reveals. A politically committed artist, Yacoubi reserves a special place in her work for women who, whatever the historical period, have lost the most.
