Choix des rôles et stratégie de provocation
Molière en ses habits d’emprunt

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Le Dramaturge sur un plateau. Quand l’auteur dramatique devient personnage
  • Author: Lecercle (François)
  • Abstract: This article suggests that Moliere adopted a strategy of provocation by hiding behind certain roles, while encouraging the spectator to perceive, under his borrowed clothes, the author himself. When Sganarelle cries for his wages rather than drawing the moral lesson, when Arnolphe sees obscenity in Agnes’s innocent words, when Orgon allows the seduction scene go beyond the limits of good taste, the dramatist shows himself to be the source of scandal.
