Stories of Violence Duras, a Mythographer of Genders and Classes

As a major political tool, Durasian mythography fulfils the opposite role of ancient myth: it rediscovers history beneath nature, working to denaturalize it, by relying exclusively on news items. Duras’s mythography thus has a dual purpose: it sheds light on relations of gendered domination by highlighting the feminicidal power of men. It also sheds light on material relations by highlighting the sociocidal power of class struggle. Through myth, Duras gives Marxism a cosmic power.
