European Humanism in the poetry of the “Chinese Francophonie” (On Sheng Cheng’s work)

References to the poets and artists of 16th-century European Humanism are very present in the works of two 20th- and 21st-century French-speaking Chinese poets, François Cheng and Sheng Cheng. This article takes a closer look at some of the poetic works of Sheng Cheng (1899-1996), which are particularly influenced by the landscapes, arts and literature of southern France and Renaissance Italy.
