Valéry translated into German Valéry’s Works, Notebooks, Principles of anarchy

The German translation of Paul Valéry’s Œuvres, Cahiers and Principes d’an-archie pure et appliquée was done in a very different way: the Werke were translated by poets, writers, professional translators and intellectuals from different cultural backgrounds, the Cahiers/Hefte by a team of interdisciplinary translators: three German Valéry philologists harmonized the texts. The problems of translation are demonstrated by the terms “conscience” and “pouvoir”. The semantic cohesion of the Prinzipien Aufgeklärter An-archie can be represented by a ‘mind-map’ or network of key notions.
