An imaginary journey through the spaces of Flaubert’s theater and La Tentation de saint Antoine

Flaubert’s theater is characterized by its fragmentation. Torn between different genres, it also presents varied spaces. These settings, which range from nineteenth-century France to celestial space and oriental and exotic regions, proliferate in plays that present a composite and contrasting space. To bring these strange places to life, Flaubert uses a number of dramatic and narrative techniques, which raises questions about the possibility of staging the texts.
