Beckettian Abstraction Form, Formlessness and Denial

“Abstraction” in Beckett’s work should be seen as a continuous process of formation and deformation, based on a poetic economy of ‘litter’. Relying on the structure of denial, Beckett negates and reasserts form at the same time, demonstrating that artistic creation is a perpetual confrontation between form and formlessness. By doing so, this work shows how aporetic the concept of ‘form’ can be when it is not freed from the dualisms within which it is often confined.
