Phares et farce
Centres de gravité et gravité d’une œuvre qui s’éclate

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: L’Unité de l’œuvre de Michel Houellebecq
  • Author: Garneau de L’Isle-Adam (Marie-Christine)
  • Abstract: The unity of Houellebecq’s novels can be found in their systematic exploration of the highbrow and the lowbrow. Like Fumaroli, Houellebecq rehearses the arguments of reformist iconoclasm and the quarrel between the Ancients and the Moderns (and Post-Moderns) within the context of a catholic cultural heritage. This is shaken by the lowbrow liberal tidal wave coming from post Revolutionary and contemporary American culture.
