Reading Ronsard’s love poetry with an Italian eye The commentaries of Muret, Belleau, and Richelet

This article focuses on one aspect of the commentaries on Ronsard’s Amours written by Muret, Belleau, and Richelet based on their first-edition copies, in which they study the relationship between Ronsard and his Italian forerunners (Petrarch and his lesser-known followers). Particular attention is paid to Richelet’s often-overlooked commentary, showing the way he read (and sometimes misread) Ronsard with an Italian eye.
