  • Abstract: In the Remonstrance au peuple de France (vv. 711–732), the reference to the torture inflicted on Baptiste Sapin belongs to a contemporary poetic discourse, of which we find a sample in two texts written for the occasion, composed in Latin and published in Paris, probably in the days after the advisor’s death was announced to the Parliament. In this eulogistic digression, Ronsard reveals his acute awareness of current literary affairs, including the issue of expression in Latin.
