By studying poems that are part of the ancient and neo-Latin tradition of Bacchic poetry, this article shows how Ronsard uses Greek and Latin words to create neologisms. The resulting creative exuberance has the effect of something like inspired writing. By analyzing the lexical sources of this inspiration, we will study the specificity of Ronsard’s Bacchic fury and how it differs from that other source of inspiration, amorous fury.
