This article aims to describe the development of Rabelais’s image across the various editions of his works. It looks at the first editions of Pantagruel, the Pantagrueline prognostication, and Gargantua—which differ from one another with several variations in pseudonym and title—followed by the publication of collected works starting from Le Tiers Livre, and finally the portraits of the author in the editions of his works published posthumously.
