In his Legatio Academiæ veteris et novæ, Johannes Voerthusius tried to find which authors among the Moderns best correspond to the Ancients. He saw Rabelais as the new Lucian. The short paragraph he devotes to the two authors is one of many testimonies which, from the sixteenth century on, insisted on Rabelais' Lucianism.
