The small shop and the boutique against their programmed death? The Poujadist leap

Poujadism is a key moment in the history of French retailing. This movement, associated with the figure of the little grocer, is the source of categories that still structure the ambivalent relationship of French people with large scale retailing. Based on documents from UDCA [Union for the defense of small retailers and craftsmen], this paper shows how the systematic denunciation of the industrial and commercial concentration trend gradually focuses on the super and hyper markets emerging formats.
