Does digital society represent the triumph of the disenchantment of the world, that is to say, the fulfilment of the modern project that breaks with dogma and superstition? The article opposes this view and establishes that technology and religion have always been closely linked in the course of Western and Christian history and that digital society has its roots in cybernetics and the New Age, both of which promote a cult of immateriality.
