Nicolas Berland, “Can an industrial group be restructured ‘properly’? Saint-Gobain faces the consequences of strategic, financial, oil and political shocks from 1970 to 2000”
Through the history of the Saint-Gobain group between the merger with Pont-à-Mousson in 1970 to the end of the 1990s, we show how the necessary organizational adjustments were made to both implement a new strategy and coping with external shocks on the business. The dismissals that followed were carried out as part of workforce redeployment operations. Although Saint-Gobain did not invent this system, it helped to popularize it to make it a mechanism for social treatment of workforce reductions which will then be taken up by law. Through this example, it is a singular variety of capitalism that emerges, for which labor is not a simple adjustment variable.
Keywords: Layoffs, strategy, external shocks, merger, reclassification of the workforce.
Stanislas Kihm, “How did Saint-Gobain’s European deindustrialisation finance the group’s global industrial ambitions (1978–1991)? Historical case study of a major French group’s strategy towards the future of its industrial activities”
This case study puts the processes of de-industrialisation into the context of the Saint-Gobain company and the managers who form its strategy. Saint-Gobain ’ s industrial policy from 1978 to 1986 was characterised by deindustrialisation in Europe and diversification into IT and service companies. From 1986 to 1991, the company began to refocus on its industrial activities in response to the oil crisis, restructuring and privatisation.

Elen Riot, “Where are the workers? Start-ups with an industrial vocation and promises of reindustrialisation in the Grand-East of France”
There is a lot of talk today about start-ups with an industrial vocation as a vector for the reindustrialization of France and as a source of dynamism. The government supports the idea that by innovating, it is possible to recreate productive jobs throughout the industry. It relies on entrepreneurs of good will. But how to explain the absence of workers in this picture of reindustrialization? We present the case of the Grand Est Region, a region hard hit by industrial decline, after several years of fieldwork.
Keywords: deindustrialization, industrial start-ups, worker, Grand Est Region, mentalities.

The exemplary success of the documentary Demain and the numerous actions it has inspired justify approaching it as an intrinsic case study. The aim of the research is to study the entrepreneurial dynamics impelled by the documentary and to study to what extent it can be considered as an exogenous trigger for the entrepreneurial behavior of the spectators (Krueger & Carsrud, 1993).
Keywords: Demain, cinema, entrepreneurial intention, trigger, entrepreneurial territories.
