We asked the question “What is a trans body?” using an approach based on comparative anthropology and multi-disciplinary perspectives. Cultural productions that portray trans people are subject to debate concerning “transface” and “passing.” These issues of representation give rise to questions: How are the bodies of trans people conceived? How are they conceived and constructed in order to be represented, to “pass for trans” when “it’s not obvious” at first?
