For a prosthetic cinema Genre films and genre/gender as citational practice

Titane (Julia Ducournau) and Les garçons sauvages (Bertrand Mandico) examine the construction of gender through processes of transhuman transformation. In this article, Laurence Perron explores the way in which prosthetics are used in these films, without necessarily developing a cinematographic commentary on transidentity, to produce a “trans vision” of cinema. She therefore looks at the presence of prosthetics in the two films and their prosthetic imaginary to demonstrate how a prosthetic imaginary of filmmaking practices has developed in response to these images of prosthetics.
