This article presents the genesis of a software tool for detecting the manipulation of photographic images, using the GIF format as “visual evidence”. This presentation is completed by a more theoretical analysis, at the crossroads of semiotics and Information and Communication Sciences, on the contribution of this format as a place of perception of forgery.
