This article studies the Mystère de Jean l’Oiseleur and explores the symbolism of the angel and the bird. It associates the materiality of the object with myth and with poetics by suggesting that the interactions of texts and self-portraits are connected to Narcissus and Orpheus. The work is a critical exercise of thought and its ties to the aphorisms of Secret professionnel are emphasized. With an inventive use of the Daniel Jacomet process, Cocteau lays down a challenge to reproduction and creates an original art book.
