Was the first futurist from Africa? F. T. Marinetti’s futurism, without machines (Mafarka the Futurist)

Although critics regularly consider “Mafarka le Futuriste” (1910) as illustrative of a so called “mechanical dream” specific to Futurism, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti’s first “futuristic” work, subtitled “African novel”, actually gives machines very little space. Would being an “African” suffice to be a Futurist? If so, what does “African” mean here?
