Casanova was in deed well acquainted with the economic life of his time, and was keenly interested in various financial and manufacturing activities. This interest in economics, which has not yet been much analysed, is one of the most surprising features of the Story of my life. Through his numerous journeys, Casanova discovered new techniques related to finance and insurance, based on the progress of probability theory, which he also used as a gambler.
