About thirty years apart, the Tragédie d’Amnon et Tamar by Chrétien des Croix and La Mariane both offer a portrait of particularly destructive passions. Although they are similar, particularly in the violence of love that bursts from the persecutors, the second, however, uses more diverse dramatic techniques. The distinct expression of antagonisms and emotional disturbances is thus indicative of an aesthetic evolution.
