Gérard Touzeau paints a picture of the Poésies’ dedicatees and shows that most of them had disappointed Isidore Ducasse, whether as friends or lovers, or for not having supported his literary efforts and appreciated Les Chants de Maldoror. The dedication therefore appears as an ironic and disillusioned invective, which makes us question the reasons that led the young poet to produce two works as different as Les Chants and the Poésies.
