Combat avec l’ange Traversing Paris

Combat avec l’ange is a journey through Paris, punctuated by the themes of love and peace. In the novel, Paris is the “big theatre” where a dramatic love story is played out. Maléna’s discovery of the city is an initiation that must lead her beyond its wealthy neighborhoods, to the Canal Saint-Martin, to Aubervilliers. In a sense, the novel was also experimental for Giraudoux, who attempts to bring together two sides of Paris, that of the realist novel and that of poetic wonder.
