What factors determined the reception of Giraudoux’s plays?

Starting from the observation that some of Giraudoux’s plays enjoyed huge success from their first production, whereas others, although appreciated by the public, received a lukewarm reception from the press, we explore what the factors were that determined this reception during the interwar period, and what factors (such as changes in stagecraft, new conceptions in staging, public taste?) affected the development of this reception later on.
