From the warrior king to the madness of arms The image of Charles VI in Froissart’s Chronicles

In Froissart’s Chronicles, the figures of English kings have been studied by critics, but those of French kings still need to be considered. Here I want to understand the image that the text gives of Charles VI. By comparing him to Richard II, I show how, in the first volumes, the warrior vigor of his youth and his lack of military education clarify the famous fit of madness in Book IV.
