Between identity and semantic proximity: the case of verbal borrowing

This article studies the relationship of semantic equivalence between borrowedneological verbs and verbs already existing in French (booster/stimuler, whatsapper/communiquer). A comparison of the predicative patterns of the verbal pairs selected identifies areas of semantic overlap between the units and makes it possible to distinguish different degrees of resemblance, ranging from total identity to semantic proximity of varying degrees.
