Correspondence between Étienne Gilson and Paul Claudel

There is a great intellectual proximity between Paul Claudel, a diplomat, a man of letters fond of theology, and Étienne Gilson, born in 1884, a Professor at the College de France and a philosopher steeped in literature. Elected the same year at the Académie française, they exchanged about fifteen letters from 1928 to 1950. They read each other and acknowledge each other’s debts. There is no trace between them of the quarrels that mark Claudel’s relations with many Catholic writers and intellectuals.
